COMPETITION DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM
MUSTANG-CAPRI 1977-1993

NOTE: WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WITHOUT MODIFICATION.
             MUFFLERS ARE NOT SUPPLIED WITH THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM.
             This kit has been designed for use with turbo mufflers or any equivalent 2 1/4" ID inlet by
             2 1/4" ID outlet single offset OEM muffler.

BEFORE STARTING: Raising your vehicle will facilitate installation of the exhaust system.  A
floor hoist is ideal.  If no hoist is available, we strongly urge the use of axle stands as a safety
measure.  DANGER WARNING; YOUR VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE SUPPORTED ON A
BUMPER JACK.  We recommend welding all pipe slip joints (headpipe to muffler, etc.).  If no
welding equipment is available at the time of installation, use furnished clamps to secure the pipes
until they can be welded.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

1)  Remove existing headpipe crossover and single exhaust system.  Cut stock headpipe and
     remove flanges to use on new headpipes.
2)  If your vehicle is equipped with a bracket between the transmission mount and the transmission,
     it will have to be removed.
3)  Install the right side stock manifold headpipe using old flange (53-1/2”).  Do not tighten at this time.
4)  Install the left side headpipe (59”) using old flange.  Note: Exhaust pipe installs under and around the cross member.
5)  Install headpipe extensions using 2 1/4" U-clamps.
6)  Install muffler.  See illustration.
7)  Install tailpipes.  It may be necessary to raise body to install tailpipes.  Top torque arm and
     shocks should be disconnected.
8)  If your car is equipped with a ground effects system, it will be necessary to use the turn downs
     included in this exhaust kit.  Cut 15" off the over-the-axle pipe and clamp on the turn downs.
9)  Install 90 degree bracket and rubber hanger above muffler outlets and secure to muffler
     with 2 1/4" clamp.
10) Install rubber hanger to bumper shock, mounting plate above tailpipe using the 2 1/4"
      U-clamp.
11) Make sure that all parts of the system are clear of frame members, all hoses, suspension,
      and brake lines.  Starting at the headpipes, tighten all connections making sure all parts
      are clear and will not leak or rattle.  NOTE: CHECK SPEEDOMETER CABLE CLEARANCE
       ON HEADPIPES (5 SPEED MODELS) AT THE CROSS MEMBER.  USE QUICK-TIES IF
      NECESSARY FOR CLEARANCE.  (QUICK-TIES ARE NOT PROVIDED).

WARNING: REMOVAL OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND OTHER FACTORY AIR POLLUTION CONTROL DEVICES IS ILLEGAL.  WE RECOMMEND YOU ABIDE BY THE LAW.   OUR TESTING INDICATES PERFORMANCE IS NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED BY THESE DEVICES.  THIS SYSTEM IS NOT LEGAL FOR ON ROAD USE ON VEHICLES THAT WERE ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS.

12)  Start engine and check for leaks.  Be sure all brake lines, fuel lines, and electrical
       wires have sufficient clearance.  Reroute as necessary.

When finished, give your vehicle a test drive, listening carefully for any new noises.  
After several minutes driving, retighten all bolts.


DANGER WARNING:  SHOULD THE PURCHASER DECIDE TO INSTALL THIS EXHAUST PRODUCT AT HOME, BE WARNED THAT PLEASURE CAR OR LIGHT DUTY TRUCK/VAN “BUMPER” JACKS ARE INTENDED FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY.  THE USE OF FRAME CONTACT JACK STANDS IN CONJUNCTION WITH A FLOOR JACK AS MAIN SUPPORT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO MINIMIZE ACCIDENTAL DROPPING OF A VEHICLE WHILE THE INSTALLATION PROCEEDS.

NOTE:  THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE NOT SUPPLIED WITH THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM.  MUFFLERS ARE NOT SUPPLIED IN THIS DUAL KIT.  THIS KIT HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR USE WITH TURBO MUFFLERS OR AN EQUIVALENT 2-1/4” SINGLE OFFSET.  GLASS PACKS CAN BE USED WITH MODIFICATIONS.
